Electric Kettle Repair - stuck lid and leaking at the base fixed!

Cuisinart CPK-17 is a great and very popular electric kettle, with two very common problems that plague many owners after a while. One is that the lid does not pop up anymore, and another one is that the kettle slowly leaks at the base. I happen to own a kettle with both of these issues, so let's fix them! [ Chapters! As there are no replacement parts available, we will reconstruct some of the parts. The tricky part is that we want to make sure that all the operations and the materials are food-safe. This may complicate things quite a bit ;)
