Anatomy tutorial of the maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve.
The maxillary nerve (CN V2) is one of the three branches of the trigeminal nerve, the fifth (V) cranial nerve and is intermediate, both in position and size, between the ophthalmic nerve and the mandibular nerve.
The maxillary nerve is a sensory nerve and arises from the trigeminal ganglion. It enters the lateral wall of the cavernous sinus where it occupies the lowest position and leaves the skull through the foramen rotundum.
