Final Appearance of Deirdre Barlow in Coronation Street (8 October 2014)

Unexpectedly, 5 years ago today, we saw the final appearance of Anne Kirkbride as Deirdre Barlow in Coronation Street.

Deirdre became distressed with the jelly in her trifle being runny, this being a culmination of all the trials and tribulations of Peter Barlow being accused of Tina McIntyre's murder. The stress became too much for Deirdre and she arranged to go and stay with her friend Bev Unwin for a while.

Anne Kirkbride took some time off, reportedly to have a break as Deirdre had been involved in some big stories that year. She was fully expected to come back after Christmas, sadly, Anne was diagnosed with cancer. Only a few people knew, including her close friend Beverley Callard. She took a turn for the worse in the middle of January 2015 and sadly died on 19 January 2015.

Anne was taken far too soon and Deirdre Barlow was simply irreplaceable.
