Abstract
Since the beginning of Kubernetes, we’ve built a cluster-centric system. The real world, however, disagrees. As Kubernetes finds its way into more places, many users are facing problems that require multiple clusters. This brings new and different problems – both technical and managerial – and Kubernetes needs to do more to make this easier. This talk will look at work that has already been done (both successes and failures), work that is happening now, and (hopefully) work that is coming soon.

Bio
Tim is a Principal Software Engineer at Google, where he works on Kubernetes, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and Anthos. He is one of the technical leads, covering areas like networking, storage, multi-cluster, and fleet management, among others. He is also a top-level owner and tech lead of Kubernetes open-source. He has been part of the project since before it was publicly announced, and pays attention to various topics, including APIs, networking, storage, nodes, multi-cluster, resource isolation, and cluster sharing.
