Distinguishing Between Solutions: -
A Solution is a mixture of two or more substances. The component that is present in a larger amount is called the solvent. The component present in a smaller quantity is called the solute. Solutions can be classified into : True solution, suspension and Colloid. True solution is a homogeneous mixture of solute and solvent whereas suspension and colloids are heterogeneous mixture of solute and solvent. The distinction between suspension and colloid lies in the size of the dispersed particles. The particles in a suspension can be seen distinctly in the dispersion medium (solvent) by the naked eye or under an ordinary microscope. The suspensions are not very stable. In colloids, the dispersed particles show very little tendency to separate. Colloid particles cannot be seen by the naked eye or under an ordinary microscope.

This video describes the preparation and properties of true solution, suspension and colloid.
