There are lots of things we can do to improve the images we take but one of the most effective and personally one of my favourite things about capturing a landscape image is COMPOSITION. Some people can struggle with composition, the most frequent questions I get asked are about composition. In this video, we are going to explore Composition, and how it can improve the images we capture.

There are NO RULES when it comes to Composition, simply ideas…suggestions...things you can try as you are working on capturing the best image you can.

A good landscape image builds a connection between the viewer and the landscape by evoking emotion and can help the viewer see and feel what the photographer felt as they were standing in front of the scene. - the story and composition play a big part in doing this.

A story in a landscape image is the scene and how all the elements in the scene interact with each other. All these elements and interactions make up the story of the landscape.

While the story is the scene, how you decide to tell that story is the composition. Our job as landscape photographers is to find the story and tell it well through the compositions we use in our images.

It’s not about which Composition rule you using or how many compositional rules you’ve used. To improve your composition you need to work out what you're trying to achieve with your composition.

Essentially Four main goals that I’m trying to achieve when composing a shot:
* Find the Story (and define it) - the composition helps to narrow in on what the story is going to be about
* Tell the Story - the composition can guide the viewer through the scene
* Lay out the Story - the composition is the arrangement of the elements in the image so it's pleasing to view
* Enhance the Story - the composition can emphasis parts of the scene (the story) to increase the impact it has on the viewer.

Composition can be quite an abstract concept, and I want to emphasise again that there is no real rules to all of this.
