Samsung Galaxy M31 review: Worth all the Hype?

We have been using the Galaxy M31 for two weeks now. Apart from our usual review of the device, we really wanted to check how it was different from the others in the same price range and also, how it stacks up against its competition. This video answers both these questions!

Okay, let’s get to the review now. The design of the M31 is plastic all over and does not look very attractive when compared to what other brands are offering. Also, it looks strikingly similar to the M21. Maybe Samsung could have gone with a new design language in order to differentiate one offering from the other. The camera setup at the back though looks like their S20 lineup.

Display-wise, you get an excellent AMOLED panel. Although it is a 60Hz panel, no other brands are providing such a good panel at this price range. So, if a higher refresh rate display is not an absolute necessity, the M31 should serve you well.

Now, since cameras are the most hyped thing about the M31, I was very eager to test their performance. On my test, I found the cameras to be excellent. The pictures have good details and dynamic range. The colors too, look very pleasing to the eye. When compared to the Poco X2, I found it’s images to be sharper though! Other aspects like portraits and wide-angle images are better on the M31. Overall, these are some good quality cameras on the M31 and if you get this device, be sure that you will get good camera performance.

Now, what also needs appreciation is the battery on the M31. The generous 6,000 mAh battery lasts you for two days on normal usage. Even with heavy use, you can get a full day of use with some juice left at the end for the next day.

Software-wise, you get Android 10 based OneUI 2.0 on the M31 and because this version of OneUI is very optimized, it works very well even on a budget and mid-range Samsung phones. But the performance of the device with the same old Exynos 9611 is just average when compared to the Poco X2 and the Realme 6 Pro.
