Did the patriarchs of Genesis really live for nine hundred years—or are we misreading how ancient texts used numbers? In this video, we examine the ages of Genesis using the earliest complete form of the genealogies, the Septuagint, rather than later medieval traditions. Grounded in modern biology, archaeology, and textual history, this analysis begins with a simple constraint: anatomically modern humans have existed for roughly 300,000 years, and there is no evidence—at any point—that our species ever lived for centuries.

By following the numerical behavior of the text itself, a two-register model emerges. Before the Flood, the genealogies operate in a primordial, sacred-time register where ages function coherently under lunar reckoning, applied consistently to begetting ages and total lifespans. After the Flood, the numbers change role: ages at begetting behave like realistic human lifespans, while the remaining years reflect lineage or household duration, preserving centuries in the text without requiring biologically impossible longevity.

This approach does not dismiss Genesis as myth, nor does it force the text into modern chronology. Instead, it treats the genealogies as ancient historiography—structured, meaningful, and internally consistent when read on their own terms. The result is a reading that respects the text, the science, and the historical context—showing that Genesis never demands belief in the biologically impossible, only careful attention to how ancient writers measured time and memory.
