The Germiyanoğulları Principality was a principality established in Western Anatolia, centered in Kütahya, during the Anatolian Principalities period, which began with the collapse and disintegration of the Anatolian Seljuk State. The meaning of the name Germiyan is derived from the Persian word germâ, meaning "hot", with the Persian plural suffix -yân. It means "hot springs". There are various views on the origin of the Germiyan tribe.
During the reign of Murat I, some of its lands (Simav, Emet, Tavşanlı and its surroundings) were given to the Ottomans as a dowry. While it was being re-established after the Battle of Ankara, in 1428, Yakub Bey II willed his country to his sister's grandson, Murad II, and following his death, the Germiyanoğulları principality joined the Ottomans.
