The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a steam railroad that operates on the former Silverton Branch of the famous Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. For 45 miles, the Silverton Train takes passengers through the breathtaking scenery of the San Juan Mountains between the towns of Durango and Silverton, Colorado.

To power the excursions, the Durango & Silverton maintains and operates a fleet of former Denver & Rio Grande Western K Class 2-8-2 Mikados. Featured in this video are K-28s number 473 and 476, K-36 number 480, and K-37 number 493. In addition to trackside footage of all four locomotives, the video also features a cab ride in 480 deep in the Animas Canyon. A variety of whistles can be heard on the locomotives with 473 wearing a Denver & Rio Grande Western 3 Chime, 476 using a Lunkenheimer 3 Chime, 480 sporting a 5 inch Baldwin 3 Chime, and 493 equipped with a replica of an experimental Norfolk & Western 3 Chime.
