The video outlines my initial reaction to and thoughts on this book. It's over a month since I read this now, and I'm still thinking about it. I loved the way that Kazuo Ishiguro uses memory in his previous books. This takes that theme and explores it in an innovative and interesting way. It's a haunting read and one that I will probably re-read in the future.

My review doesn't go into the plot-points of the book. I did this deliberately because I personally enjoyed the experience of going into this without preconceived ideas about the plot. It took me a while to confirm that it fits into the fantasy genre. This is a very understated sort of fantasy though, the magical elements are toned down next to the emotional development of the characters.

I definitely recommend this novel and gave it five stars. It's one of my favourite reads of the year so far.
