The National Interdisciplinary Students Conference on ‘Trauma, Memory, and Post-Memory’ organized by the Raleigh Literary Society under the aegis of the Raleigh Literary Festival 1.0 — an event that recorded participation from over 40 different universities/institutions across India. True to its name, the conference had papers focusing on a wide variety of disciplines, including literature, politics, history, psychology, as well as gender studies. The conference was held in eight parallel sessions.

Cathy Caruth’s edited collection of essays Trauma: Explorations in Memory (1995) adds an interesting layer to the subject of trauma and memory. According to the normative understanding of the relation between Trauma and Memory, there is a fundamental enigma. When the present was present, it could not be recalled once it is past, its presence is only in recall. This means that the act of recalling involves the construction of a past that was never present.
