4K drive from central Aomori city to Sukayu hot spring in Aomori, Japan on Feb 9th, 2020. Sukayu is known as one of the snowiest places in Japan. The wall of snow along the roadside is getting taller as the car approaching Sukayu.

Sukayu (酸ヶ湯) at 890m above sea level is known as the snowiest place in Japan that is accessible by car in winter.
It holds the record of the highest snow accumulation 566cm in 2013 ever recorded by JMA(Japan Meteorological Agency) weather station. and its annual accumulated snowfall exceeds 20m in a certain year. (recently 1996, 1999 and 2006)

It had 330cm snowfall on my visit even though there has been little snowfall nationwide in this winter (2019-2020)

Sukayu Onsen(Hot spring) locates in such an extremely snowy area.
However, it's a very well equipped traditional Japanese style inn with excellent traditional style wooden large bathes. You may not be able to believe that you are in such a freezing area while soaking in the bath.
