Onboard 16650 Nagercoil Jn-Mangalore Central Parasuram Express crosses ED WAP4 22381 coupled 21 coach 16526 Bangalore City-Kanyakumari Island Express. Both trains were running at a good pace producing a rhythmic beating resonant sound while crossing.

Parasuram Express traverses the full length of the Kerala State during the day time.The train derives its name from the legend of mythical character Parasurama, who is considered as creator of Kerala and Konkan Coast including Mangalore and Trivandrum from the sea. The train is also called as Day Express as it covers its most part of journey in day time.The train has extended to Nagercoil as per the Railway Budget (2012--13).

No part of the Island Express train's route is on an island; the name was given because the predecessor of this train used to end its journey at the Cochin Harbour Terminus station in Willingdon Island, Cochin till the mid-1970s. At that time, it was the only train that connected Bangalore (Karnataka state) to Kerala.The most preferred train by all Keralites residing in Bangalore.

Island Express also experienced a horrible accident while on its way to Nagercoil in July 1988 when a large number of its coaches fell into the lake Ashtamudi Kayal while crossing the railway bridge. 105 people lost their lives (Peruman railway accident).
