From ancient civilisations through to the Romans, the Arabs, the Knights of Malta and the Ottoman Turks, not to mention the Axis Powers and the British - pretty much everyone has fought over this tiny island with its incredibly useful strategic position. And then there are the archaeological sites - unparallelled throughout all of Europe. Malta really is a magnet for history lovers.
