She was always inclined towards art & design even as a kid. When she was around 12 years old when, she told her parents she wanted to become a designer and ever since then they helped her take every step towards living her dream.
After completing school she went for a Foundation in Design course at the Indian Institute of Crafts & Design, Jaipur. She did my BA in Psychology from LD arts college,
Ahmedabad along with a diploma in Product Design from the Institute of Design,
Expression, Art & Learning, Ahmedabad run by Asha Mandappa. She did two group shows
after which she started taking orders & working from her home studio which lead to Atiya.
It is a furniture & lifestyle products brand with a twist of imagination. Being born & brought up in a country with a wide culture. Her product inspirations have been the different Indian art motifs, flora & fauna. Experimentation is one of the things that she always loved doing & the product range conveys it clearly. She does her part by designing products to decorate homes. Having started working towards it from the age of 18, & launching
the brand officially at 22, she was keen on doing more, learning more & doing
something that would make an impact in one way or the other.
She, then, decided to do my Masters in Furniture & Product Design and guess what?!
She got admission offer from Nottingham Trent University, one of the top 10 universities in the UK and while she was busy trying to sink that in, she got a maximum
scholarship & also, she was the ONLY Indian student selected for the course.
While ALL of this was happening, what about Atiya?
She worked towards it while interning & while doing her MA as well. During her Masters, she stumbled upon this opportunity of submitting a paper for one of the Cumulus Conference’s, that was going to take place in April 2016. “Declining Crafts: looking through a different perspective” The paper got published, she was the youngest speaker at the conference, all of 23 presenting in front of well-known authors, designers and the faculty! That day, she became more sure about what she wanted to do. Uplift these artisans, revive the declining crafts and make a difference. The rest is history.
After Graduating & moving back from NTU, she started working with these artisans, creating and making offbeat, colour pop, bright lifestyle products that became a hit in no time! From trays to trunks to wedding giveaway gifts, these hand painted styles and designs became their USP.
With all that she had learnt from her Internship at India Circus, she decided to put all of her years learning to use & introduce digitally printed products. They started with wallpapers, tthen got into designing wedding invites. They then introduced textiles - Table linen, sarees, stoles, pocket squares. After receiving a massively fantastic response they further moved on to doing stationery. They started from personalised stationery for a few clients to now, making & designing stationery for the masses!
