The Shock Trauma Center is in the Nation's First and Only Integrated Trauma Hospital. The mission of the Division of Trauma Anesthesiology is to provide outstanding anesthetic care to trauma patients originating from the state of Maryland. Care is delivered at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, the world’s first freestanding trauma facility, which serves as the primary adult trauma referral center for Maryland and features capabilities, which exceed a Level 1 trauma center designation. The School of Medicine at the University of Maryland serves as the anchor for a large academic health center which aims to provide the best medical education, conduct the most innovative biomedical research and provide the best patient care and community service to Maryland and beyond. While its tradition of excellence remains constant, the School of Medicine and its reputation for academic achievement continues to grow.
