Mirchi Bangla presents Satyajit Ray's Barnandho on Friday Classics
Date of Broadcast - 15th August, 2025
At the age of 21, on 22nd March 1942, Satyajit Ray first published this story in English in The Amrita Bazar Patrika, giving it the title Shades of Grey. At the time, he was studying at Kala Bhavana in Santiniketan. Many years later, in 1989, the story was republished in English in Ekkhon magazine. After his death, in 1995, Satyajit Ray’s wife, Bijoya Ray, translated the story into Bengali and published it in the Sarodiya (festive) issue of Desh magazine.
২১ বছর বয়সে, ১৯৪২ সালের ২২শে মার্চ সত্যজিৎ রায় প্রথম এই গল্পটি ইংরেজিতে প্রকাশ করেন অমৃতবাজার পত্রিকা-য়, এবং নাম দেন Shades of Grey। সে সময় তিনি শান্তিনিকেতনের কলাভবনে পড়াশোনা করছিলেন। বহু বছর পরে, ১৯৮৯ সালে, গল্পটি আবার ইংরেজিতে প্রকাশিত হয় এক্ষণ পত্রিকায়। তাঁর মৃত্যুর পর, ১৯৯৫ সালে, সত্যজিৎ রায়ের স্ত্রী বিজয়া রায় গল্পটি বাংলায় অনুবাদ করে দেশ পত্রিকার শারদীয় সংখ্যায় প্রকাশ করেন।
