The anime adaptation of The Vermilion Mask has been officially announced.

The manga by Dr. Poro and Nabana Naba will be brought to life on screen, as revealed during Yomiuri TV's Anime Expo 2025 panel today. While a release date has yet to be announced, key staff members and a subtitled promotional video were shared.

Tetsuaki Watanabe (known for BLUE LOCK Season 1) will direct the project, with Gai Hazako serving as assistant director at the animation studio 100studio. Daisuke Ohigashi (Fate/strange Fake) is responsible for series composition, Hisashi Higashijima (MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES) will oversee story and character designs, Fumiyuki Goh (Kaiju No. 8) is the sound director, and Arisa Okehazama (JUJUTSU KAISEN) will compose the music.

Watanabe mentioned that the original creators have been actively involved in the story development and scripting from the beginning. He assures that both newcomers and long-time fans will find something to enjoy.

The Vermilion Mask began serialization in Shonengahosha’s Young King Ours magazine in February 2021, and as of next week, eight volumes will have been published.

These "masks" bestow power upon their wearers.

At times, they unlock boundless potential; at other times, they bring about unimaginable disaster.

Peru, an apprentice to the renowned mask artisan Gaston Lou, loses control when he becomes possessed by the "Mask of the Warrior God."

In a fit of rage, he inadvertently kills both his companions and his master.

Overwhelmed by grief, Peru vows to destroy every mask created by his late master, which are now scattered throughout the world.

He sets out on a journey of redemption, facing the burden of his past actions.

"Calling it redemption might make it sound noble, but let's be honest—it's not that grand."

The adventure unfolds with friendships formed and fierce battles fought. The Mask Battle Fantasy begins!
