The man charged in the fatal stabbing of a woman at an Arden gas station in 2025 has pleaded guilty to murder in court and will face life in prison.

On Friday, Feb. 13, John Blodgett faced the court in Buncombe County to plead guilty to first-degree murder in Jodi Anderson's stabbing death and hear from Anderson's friends and family members. Blodgett also pleaded guilty to robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

On the morning of July 14, 2025, deputies with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a fight at the Shell gas station located at 4012 Sweeten Creek Road. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a woman, identified as Jodi Anderson, dead.

Soon after Anderson's body was found, suspect John Blodgett was captured at a nearby Walmart and charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Police said he was found with more than $3,000 in a bank bag and used "blood-stained bills to purchase a debit card to pay off an outstanding CashApp balance."

Prosecutors on Friday said Blodgett stabbed Anderson more than 20 times, including in her neck. According to the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office, Anderson had fired Blodgett from his job at the Shell gas station several weeks before the murder, was "disgruntled over his termination, and was unable to secure unemployment benefits."

Buncombe Superior Court Judge Jacqueline Grant presided over Friday's plea hearing as each of Anderson's five daughters spoke. They each shared that Jodi Anderson was a wonderful mother, and their lives were changed and devastated forever.

"I won't ever understand why anybody would wake up and decide at 6:47 in the morning to murder my mother," said Jessica, Anderson's second eldest daughter.

"For my sisters, my mother was their source of emotional stability and identity. For those of us who were older, we have lost our only parent, an anchor of this world," said Cynthia, Anderson's eldest daughter.

Judge Grant said she hoped the hearing and knowing Blodgett would live the rest of his life in prison would at least give some respite to the pain and suffering they have and continue to experience after their mother was killed.
