Second album by Bruce Soord and Neil Randall's band before The Pineapple Thief. A bit more eclectic than the first album and quite a lot going on. They lost their drummer on this one so there's quite a few guest musicians and also electronic elements. They would find their style more confidently on later albums like Jet Set Radio (maybe their best) and The Fine Art of Living, which I'd absolutely recommend.

Vulgar Unicorn started off as a trio of Neil Randall, David Hutchfield and Bruce Soord. Soord and Randall were members of Persona Non Grata and Soord, of course is most well known as the founder of The Pineapple Thief. This British trio used the help from trumpet, saxophone and violin in some ambitious instrumental developments. Vulgar Unicorn is song oriented melodic prog. The compositions move in and of these influences creating variety and interest but not any wasted time. Also included in their sound is some space prog influences. This combination creates interesting changes in texture and mood.
