Artifact 3363 – The Extra Minute That Wasn't Worth It
March 18, 2025 | 6:30 AM Ramble
Mornings Aren’t My Thing… Usually
It's 6:30 in the morning. Not my usual Artifact time.
I don’t typically record these at dawn. Nighttime is my usual vibe—quiet, moody, reflective.
But today? Today’s different. I’m up early. My body’s aching. And I’ve got something to say.
The “One More Minute” Mentality
So here’s what went down.
I’ve been running 30 minutes non-stop every single day for the past three years. No breaks. No excuses. My body’s used to it. It's a ritual. A lifestyle.
But three days ago, I had a wild idea:
"Let’s push it. Let’s run just one more minute."
So I did.
31 minutes.
Next day: 32.
Then 33, 34, and finally—last night—I hit 35 minutes.
The Run Felt Great… Until It Didn’t
Here’s the thing:
While I was running, I felt amazing. No pain. No warning signs. Just rhythm and momentum.
But the moment I got home—bam—pain hit like a surprise guest.
My stomach started cramping. My legs felt like lead.
And worst of all?
I had zero energy left for my actual work.
And let me tell you, my work is not optional. It’s important. It matters.
And now, because of one minute extra for a few days, I was jeopardizing it.
Lesson Learned: I'm Not an Athlete
Look—I get it. If I were training for a marathon or trying to qualify for the Olympics, this would make sense.
But I’m not.
I’m just a regular person trying to stay fit while managing a packed routine.
And for that? 30 minutes is enough.
It keeps me healthy. I still have energy to play badminton. I can work. I can function.
Pushing past that, just to test myself? Not worth the cost.
The Pain Came Home With Me
Last night, I couldn’t sleep.
My legs were sore. My stomach felt weird. I tossed and turned all night.
Slept maybe 4 to 5 hours, tops.
Woke up at 4:30 AM—not by choice, just couldn’t sleep anymore.
And I’m still feeling the aftershocks. Legs are heavy. Brain is foggy.
Even now, talking to you, I don’t really have the energy or the mood.
Sometimes Less Really Is More
So yeah… I’m dialing it back.
No more 35-minute ego runs.
30 minutes is my sweet spot. That’s where I thrive.
More isn’t always better. Especially when it messes with your sleep, your work, and your peace.
Alright, that’s all for now.
Might go rest my legs and make some chai.
Thanks for being here.
