Jodi Prem Dile Na Prane is the introductory song of Bhuma. Tagore composed it during his heydays of creativity, that is in 1913-'14, in raga Sahana. Later on, he also rendered the lyric into English. The translation goes like this :

IF LOVE BE denied me then why does the morning break its heart in songs, and why are these whispers that the south wind scatters among the new- born leaves?
If love be denied me then why does the midnight bear in yearning silence the pain of the stars?
And why does this foolish heart recklessly launch its hope on the sea whose end it does not know?

Tagore's songs, without an exception, present a celestial blending of the lyric and the tune. Here too, capturing the spirit of musical harmony and beauty inherent in nature, Jodi Prem Dile Na Praane, offers the critique that despite existing amidst this omnipresent musicality, we, human beings, lack love within ourselves. However, at the same time, it also offers an aesthetic exposition of the fact that deep down our hearts we too feel the pulse of ecstatic madness. And thus, I present before you this song.

I have remained almost entirely fidel to the notation prepared by Dinendra Nath Tagore and the style bears the signature of my teacher Smt. Kumkum Mitra and the way it came down to her via Rabindrasangeetacharya Sri Sailajaranjan Majumdar and Sri Subinoy Roy.

Debayan Banerjee has done a wonderful music design. And I am particularly thankful to Koustabh Chakrabarty for helping me to choose and sequentialize the art works of Rabindranath himself for making the video. Hope you all will enjoy this, and put up with the mistakes if any.
