Joseph P. Broderick, MD, is known for his compassion—taking care of
people and not just diagnosing them. As the director of the University
of Cincinnati Gardner Neuroscience Institute and a neurologist with UC
Physicians since 1987, he has been fueled by that compassion and a desire
to improve lives through patient care, education and research.

A lifelong Cincinnatian, Dr. Broderick graduated in 1982 from the UC College of Medicine, where he ranked first in his class. He received his medical neurological training and completed a cerebrovascular fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Upon finishing training, he returned to Cincinnati to begin his career with UC, where he has helped to transform neuroscience care over the last 30+ years.

At and beyond UC, Dr. Broderick is celebrated for pioneering innovative discoveries and significantly advancing stroke care for all ages. He was a leader in the testing of intravenous tPA for treatment of acute ischemic stroke, which is the only FDA approved treatment for this condition. In Cincinnati, he has built a neuroscience institute that has become a national destination and in doing so has enabled patients to be treated closer to home and saved lives.
