Talk description: kotlin-fhir (https://github.com/google/kotlin-fhir) is a lean implementation of FHIR data models on Kotlin Multiplatform. It is a lightweight library with zero bloat and modern & minimalistic Kotlin class definitions for FHIR. The core of it is a Gradle binary compiler plugin that generates Kotlin code from FHIR R4, R4B and R5 specifications. It supports JSON and protocol buffers serialisation and can be used for Android, iOS and web development. The talk covers the implementation of the gradle plugin and the Kotlin representation of FHIR structures including FHIR data types, choice of types, BackBone elements etc. It focuses on how these design decisions make it easier for developers to write type-safe and readable code. The talk also covers the serialization roundtrip tests for examples published in FHIR packages. This library has the power to transform FHIR development, laying down the foundation for a whole new generation of multiplatform FHIR applicatiions.
