Since its release in 1976, Eric Carle's The Grouchy Ladybug has delighted very young readers and listeners. Carle's signature collage illustrations and humorous text tell the story of a tiny anti-hero. The Grouchy Ladybug doesn't say "please" or "thank you", it doesn't like to share, and it goes through the book trying to pick fights with everything it meets (including a whale's fin). In the end, the ladybug meets its match and becomes a nicer and better-behaved bug. This fast-moving story with die-cut pages invites children to explore the concepts of time, size, shape, and manners.
