-- PRESENTATION: SEKIGUCHI RYŪ BATTŌ-JUTSU --
Sekiguchi Ryū Battō-jutsu is a style specialized in Iai which was founded by Sekiguchi Yarokuemon, then put in the care of his elder son, Sekiguchi Hachirōzaemon.
It is a rather complex style compared to other Bujutsu schools; while having increased the number of Kata, it preserved strongly the martial efficiency of its techniques by ridding it of its demonstrative aspects. For instance, the “Sayabanare” (drawing the sword) is vigorous and the movement of the center of gravity is powerful with a strong step on the ground (Fumikomi).
The techniques at the root of the style were obstinately protected during their transmission, generation after generation, until today. From Kamegaya Shigeru, who had followed the teaching of the 14th representant Aoki Kikuo at the peak of his art and was the best of the three disciples who had received directly from him the secrets of the school, Sekiguchi Ryū Battō-jutsu was affiliated to the Nihon Kobudo Shinkōkai.
In 1967 one of Kamegaya’s senior students, named Takaki Kazuo, received the Kaiden and became the 16th representant of the school. In 1980, he became the emissary of the school to the Shinkōkai. He was then succeeded by Miyagi Kiisao in 1994, and then by the present Shihan.
