To Wakkanai on Japan’s beast of a winter train

Описание к видео To Wakkanai on Japan’s beast of a winter train

Japan’s northernmost train line leads to Wakkanai in Hokkaido, on the edge of the wild, freezing Sea of Okhotsk. One day I rode JR’s astounding Soya Line in winter on a "Sarobetsu" train. On the way, I found a world of magical landscapes and picturesque, snow-buried train stations. The four-hour train ride begins in Asahikawa, goes through smaller places like Nayoro and Otoineppu, and even gives a stunning view out over the frigid sea. Eventually it arrives in Wakkanai, Japan’s northernmost city, during a heavy snowstorm. Magical!
