CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A former security monitor and wrestling coach is in jail for allegedly touching fifth and sixth-grade boys.

"Anything you want to say about the charges?" we asked Lamont Baldwin as he turned himself in on 12 child sex abuse charges.

Local 12 sat down with Clyde Bennett, Baldwin's attorney, to discuss the case.

"My client is a 54-year-old man married with two children, law-abiding, productive citizen. Has never been in trouble. I don't even think he has a traffic ticket," said Bennett. "The 'Me Too' movement has resulted and precipitated in charges that are not necessarily supported by evidence. Charges that are reactionary. Charges that are not appropriate."

Bennett said the case started with horseplay when Baldwin would wrestle a boy at Princeton Middle School. That boy came forward to the Sharonville Police with an allegation.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said there are four separate victims, three of them under the age of 13, who claim Baldwin touched them inappropriately both in and outside of school.

"Of course they trusted him. He was probably wearing some kind of uniform and he's your coach. That's pathetic that somebody would prey on kids like that, in that position," said Deters.

Bennett said he does not know why students didn't come forward sooner.

"I think if you go into any school and you asked a bunch of students about a teacher or an authority figure, I guarantee you more than one of them is going to say something," said Bennett.

"These are young kids and maybe scared, embarrassed, who knows? But they're just very, very young, and that's why he was able to get away with it but not anymore," said Deters.

Deters hopes to send Baldwin to prison for decades. Bennett said his client is innocent.

“These cases are really disturbing because they’re entrusted with defenseless people," said Deters.

The charges span from 2015 to 2018, but Baldwin had worked at Princeton City Schools since 1996. Deters thinks there might be more victims and is asking them to come forward.

Baldwin will be in court Friday morning.
