🦕 About the Ride

The attraction first opened with Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 1998 as Countdown to Extinction. It was one of the park’s most thrilling rides, known for its dark tone, intense motion, and extreme bumps. Guests boarded Time Rovers and raced back to the late Cretaceous period to rescue an Iguanodon before a catastrophic asteroid impact.

In 2000, to tie in with the release of Disney’s animated film Dinosaur, the ride was rebranded as Dinosaur. The name, signage, and entrance statue were updated, the storyline was tweaked to officially feature Aladar, the Iguanodon from the movie, and the ride itself was toned down to be more family-friendly. Despite these changes, it remains one of Animal Kingdom’s most iconic attractions.
