For more than two decades, sugarcane farmers in coastal regions of Queensland continue to embrace change, seek new ideas, and elevate their practices to improve water quality - whilst increasing productivity and profitability.
What began in 2008 as a way to qualify the benefits of wider rows, reduced compaction, minimum tillage, and many other practices, quickly became a growing network of farmers willing to exchange ideas and share experiences.

16 years on, the results of this unique Partnership between growers, NRM's, The Coca-Cola Foundation, WWF-Australia and the Australian Government's Reef Trust speak for themselves.

The legacy of Project Catalyst growers like Joe Muscat and Tony Bujega continues as they embrace technology on the farm. Two of the first 19 Catalyst growers, they credit the group for their ability to think outside the square and try new things.

Working with Spatial Agronomist, Zoe Eagger Tony is now using quality spatial data to increase productivity and improve profitability.

Advancing technology in AgTech over the last decade, many companies are now deploying autonomous vehicles and robots featuring Artificial Intelligence that weed, plant, and even cultivate. Joe and his son Stephen see a future where they will be necessary to fill job vacancies, and capable of working 24/7. Currently cost prohibitive for a single entity to own, they believe networks of growers who already share equipment are required for adoption.
