VinFast is recalling all of the 999 vehicles – its first shipment sent to the U.S. from Vietnam – due to a software glitch.

The Vietnam-based company which is building an electric vehicle car plant in Chatham County made the recall after a warning from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Thursday.

A software glitch caused a blank screen in the VF 8 model EVs that displays safety information. The problem “may increase the risk of a crash,” the NHTSA said.

In its notice, the NHTSA reported:

VinFast Auto, LLC (VinFast) is recalling certain 2023 VF8 vehicles. A software error may cause the multifunction head unit (MHU) display to go blank. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, “Control and Displays.”
