The History of Century III Mall in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania - Opened October, 1979

Описание к видео The History of Century III Mall in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania - Opened October, 1979

The land of the Century III Mall in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania began as a slag dump for many of the steel companies. Starting in 1913, the dump was already nearly 200 feet high by 1949. A subsidiary of US Steel in 1969, wanted to repurpose the land for a productive purpose and began the Century III Mall - named after the 1976 US Bicentennial celebration. After construction and opening in October, 1979, the mall was the third largest in the country at the time. The 1.6 million square foot mall was popular until increased competition from nearby newer and freshly renovated malls took companies from the Century III as well as customers. Falling into despair, the last store to leave the Mall was its first store - JC Penney, which closed in October, 2019. Please watch the video for a full history of the once large mall in Pennsylvania - the Century III Mall. #retailrewind
