The Thief Knot is a binding knot that is often used as a bend knot. It has an appearance that's similar to the Square Knot but the short ends appear on opposite sides (Square Knot short ends appear on the same side).

The Thief knot is an unreliable knot but it's important to be able to recognize. There are many other knots that can be used to tie two ropes together instead of the Thief Knot. You can find several in my video 24 Great Bend Knots.
