55 Minutes with South Carolina baseball coach Paul Mainieri

New South Carolina Gamecocks head baseball coach Paul Mainieri joined Inside the Gamecocks The Show with Jamie Bradford, JC Shurburtt, Mike Morgan and Mad Dog Phil Mullinax to take viewers and listeners behind the scenes on why he came out of retirement to take the South Carolina job, what his team and practice philosophy is and what he intends to do to restore glory to the Carolina program, which has not been to the College World Series since 2012 when the Gamecocks finished second after winning back-to-back National Championships under Mainieri's new boss, Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner. Mainieri talked about the expectations at South Carolina, where the program just fired Mark Kingston (now the head coach in-waiting at Creighton) after he took the program to four NCAA Tournaments and two Super Regionals in six seasons. The Southeastern Conference adds perhaps the top job in America in Texas plus national power Oklahoma to a deep roster of baseball programs starting next season. The league has won every National Championship since 2019 (Vanderbilt) as three newcomers- Mississippi State (2021), Ole Miss (2022) and Tennessee this season have broken through to hoist the trophy for the first time. LSU, the program Mainieri led for 15 seasons, won it all in 2023 with a chunk of players that the 66-year old Hall of Famer, who is now the wins leader for active head coaches in college baseball, recruited.
