Does anyone correct your grammar? Well, let's talk about some grammar mistakes that are not actually wrong!

Let’s face it, once you learn English, you would tend to commit grammar mistakes because the pattern in your native language is not the same as in English. And there are chances that grammar trolls would correct you, right?

• Using "that" instead of "who" as a pronoun to refer to a person
“That” and “who” are relative pronouns – they relate ideas together. Well, I can say that “That” is a safe pronoun to use if you are referring to a person or thing.

• Like to do / like doing
Gerunds and infinitives are often confused because of the rules that they follow. And there are certain words that you can only use with gerunds or words that you can only use with infinitives. But there are also words that you can use for both of them. Say for example the word “like”. But what you need to care about is the meaning of what you want to say.
I like watching movies. (like + gerund = things you enjoy doing)
I like to watch movies. (like + to-infinitive = perform the action, habit, preference)

• Using they as a singular pronoun
We normally use “he/she” when we talk about an individual person or “it” for a single thing.But “they” can be used to refer to a person when you want to avoid saying “he” or “she” or when you do not know if the person is male or female.


• There is a lot / there are a lot
People think that “a lot” is plural because it means “many”, and we cannot use “is” with “many”, so we can’t use “there is”, but, it’s actually possible!
Even native speakers use “there is” for anything because it's easier for them to say it

• Than me / than I am
This is another grammar mistake that people think is wrong, but actually not.
