Shogi is Japanese chess
It is said to have originated from chaturaṅga in India.
There are pieces that are similar to chess, so you may feel the same origin.
歩 → Pawn
桂 → Knight (but only in the front two places)
角 → Bishop
飛→Rook
王→King
香→Advance only above as many times as you like
銀 → Cannot go left, right or down out of 8 directions
金 →Cannot go to bottom right and bottom left out of 8 directions

To promote, you need to move behind your opponent's third row or move from behind the third row to another location.
Another big difference from chess is that captured pieces can be reused.
