Some objectives repeat patterns or make limited use of the environments, but others remain clever and rewarding even today. Boss battles, including the three encounters with Bowser, are relatively simple compared to later 3D Mario games, but the platforming challenges that surround them keep the tension high. The game constantly rewards curiosity, from hidden areas in the castle to creative tricks inside its stages.
