Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico shot and in hospital, suspect arrested

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot and wounded after leaving a meeting on Wednesday, according to local media. Fico was reportedly hit in the abdomen after four shots were fired outside the House of Culture in the town of Handlova, Slovakia.

"I heard three shots, it was quick one by one like if you throw a firecracker on the ground," said witness Lubica Valkova.

President Zuzana Čaputová condemned the attack and said, "A physical attack on the prime minister is primarily an attack on a person, but it is also an attack on democracy. Any violence is unacceptable."

"The police arrested the (suspected) perpetrator and will surely bring more information when possible," Čaputová added.
