From ‘the78prof’ playlist “And Then They Added Words.” First popularized by composer David Rose in 1944 (   • 1944 HITS ARCHIVE: Holiday For Strings - D...   ) and long-time Red Skelton theme, the classic instrumental piece was given lyrics by Sammy Gallop, recorded by the Modernaires in the summer of 1945, and finally issued nearly a year later as the flip side of their popular version of “To Each His Own.”

The original 78rpm single was issued on Columbia 37063 - Holiday For Strings (Gallop-Rose) by The Modernaires with Paula Kelly, orchestra conducted by Mitchell Ayres, recorded August 22, 1945 .
