The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Publican)

Описание к видео The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Publican)

In the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector, Jesus teaches a very important lesson about humility and prayer. In the parable the Pharisee is haughty. He brags to God about how supposedly holy he is.

The tax collector (publican) on the other hand is humble. He has the right approach to prayer. He humbles himself recognizing his own sinfulness and seeks God's mercy.

No matter how good and holy we become, we must never lose our awareness of our sinfulness. We are all sinners. The prayer of the publican helps us: "have mercy on me, a sinner."

This prayer is a part of a very famous and ancient Christian prayer known as the Jesus Prayer:

"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner." (To learn more about the Jesus Prayer watch:    • The Jesus Prayer Explained  )

So, seek to be humble, not haughty. For, as Jesus said:

"Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted" (Lk 18:14).
