Why do we need mythology in the 21st century? Is Indian mythology even relevant to our modern day problems? If so, how can we revive its traditional stories, characters and ideologies to fit modern day life, while still retaining its purpose and teachings about our culture and lifestyle? Or are the teachings of Indian mythology in fact outdated and need to be updated?

Annushka answers these questions in a progressive talk inspired by her work portraying Indian mythological characters in a quirky and contemporary light. A Visual Artist, an Illustrator and a Feminist, Annushka Hardikar is a storyteller at heart.

Being a Graphic Design graduate from Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore, she enjoys working with brands and subjects related to nature, food, travel and dogs.

Annushka co-published ‘Raising Rihaan’, a comic book launched at the Pune International Literary Festival 2018. Her feminist zine ‘Oh Nari! So sanskari’ combines the tribulations of today with the characters of the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata.

Her newest collaborative venture 'A Fresh Coat’, is a street art project to infuse life into dreary old shop shutters by turning them into a canvas. It combines contemporary art styles and storytelling to depict the stores’ legacy.

Seeking magic in ordinary moments, Annushka Hardikar addresses conservative archetypes in her own satirical way. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
