Vishnu, also known as Narayana or Hari, is one of the principal deities of Hinduism. He is the supreme being within Vaishnavism, one of the major traditions in Hindu mythology.

According to Hindu mythology, Vishnu is believed to be eternal and has no birth or death. However, he is said to have appeared on Earth in various incarnations or avatars to protect and preserve the world. His first incarnation was as Matsya (the fish) during the Satya Yuga (the first age of the world).

Vishnu is believed to have taken ten major incarnations to restore cosmic order and protect humanity. These avatars include Matsya (the fish), Kurma (the tortoise), Varaha (the boar), Narasimha (the half-man, half-lion), Vamana (the dwarf), Parashurama (the warrior sage), Rama (the prince and hero of the Ramayana), Krishna (the divine cowherd and teacher of the Bhagavad Gita), Buddha (the enlightened one), and Kalki (the future avatar who is yet to appear).

Vishnu is considered the preserver and guardian of the universe. He maintains cosmic order and protects the world from destruction. His avatars appear whenever there is a decline in righteousness and the forces of evil threaten to overpower the forces of good.

Vishnu is often depicted with his consort, Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. They are believed to be inseparable and represent the divine union of male and female energies. Vishnu is also accompanied by various divine beings, including Garuda (the eagle), his mount, and Shesha (the serpent), on which he rests.

Vishnu is worshipped by millions of devotees around the world. His devotees believe that by praying to him and seeking his blessings, they can attain spiritual liberation and eternal salvation. Temples dedicated to Vishnu, such as the famous Tirupati Balaji Temple in India, attract a large number of pilgrims.
