Tips for tourist: How to get around San Francisco and still save money.

Let's start with rental cars.
This is where you will feel the most pain in your wallet.

1) San Francisco Is only 7 miles long and 7 miles wide full of one way streets with lots of hills and heavy traffic.

2) Parking is a nightmare; You may spend 30 to 45 minutes trying to find a spot and then still have to walk 3 or 4 blocks to your destination.

3) Public parking lots a generally full and cost about $25.00 a day or more.

4) There is no overnight parking on city streets unless you're a resident of San Francisco and have a parking permit.

5) Most hotels charge for parking about $40 to $60 a night. Call your hotel first before you make a reservation.

Now that I gave you the bad news here's the good news.

San Francisco has one of the best public transportation systems in the U S. 80% of the people the live in the city and the bay area use local transportation to go to work or play in the city.

There are very few places in the city were you won't find public transportation within a few blocks of your destination.
