In today’s video, I’m sharing a woodworking project I recently completed—one that can easily be done in a day or two and was a lot of fun to make.
My name is Dr. Paul Kerstetter, and lately I’ve been interested in taking pieces of wood that others are throwing away and turning them into something interesting or unexpected. For this project, I found a small shelf discarded along the side of the road. It was old, stained, and clearly unwanted—but after cleaning it up, I discovered it was made from a beautiful piece of cedar.

So what did I turn it into? An extra-large holey die (yes, that’s the singular of dice). It stands about 5⅜ inches tall and, while it isn’t particularly useful, it makes a great ornamental piece. You could turn one into a pen or pencil holder, or make several and string them together for display. In my case, it’s simply a fun conversation piece for my home.
