Fljúga Hrafna - Þat mælti mín móðir (My Mother Told Me) (Ancient Norse Inspired Viking Music)

Well, this one is personal. To be short - 2 years ago my mother passed away (at just 58) due to bad habits and life choices. That was the time when I started to work on this song. For her. She never was best mother, or even one, but that wasn't something I choose. Truth be told, I barely remember her and all she had given me is life, trauma and abandonment. But still - she is my mother, and this song is for her. My last gift to close this chapter in my life for good.

And here we come to historical part. The poem, used for lyrics for this now very popular song (thanks to TV shows and video games and one million versions and covers on YouTube) was written by skald Egill Skallagrimson, a very interesting personality on itself. What I would like to remind You - that all we have left is poem itself, text only with no melody. Poem itself (supposedly) was written by Egill at age of 7 after he committed he's first murder, that escalated in fighting between families and more deaths. All of this pretty much aligns with Egills patron god Odin, so its supposedly sets him on he's way of becoming great viking. So, in my opinion this poem is much more about war, plunder and murder, than of motherly love, as many tend to interpret it (and they free to do it of course). That's why I decided to make my very own version that You can hear here, that would be different from others that You, probably, have already heard.

I was considering to ask to do vocals to someone who could actually do decent job on that (as I just hate the sound of my own voice), but as the theme of this song is very personal, in the end, I decided to do it myself. Still not satisfied with result, but that was best I could do.
