Today I am presenting Phanishwar Nath Renu's story Panchlight.

The story revolves around a Petromax which becomes prestige issue for the Panchayat.

No one knows how to ignite the Petromax. Finally a boy who is expelled by the Panchayat ignites it and regains his lost respect.

Phanishwar Nath 'Renu' was one of the most successful and influential writers of modern Hindi literature in the post-Premchand era. He is the author of Maila Anchal, which after Premchand's Godaan, is regarded as the most significant Hindi novel.
