Taking the stage on Sunday night (May 18), Simpson delivered a performance of her new song “Blame Me” before teaming up with Top 8 finalist Josh King for a duet of her 2005 cover of “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.” The performance, her first televised appearance in 15 years, quickly became the most talked-about moment of the night.
While some fans praised her return, calling it a “comeback worth waiting for,” others weren’t as kind. Critics on social media platform X slammed the performance, with one viewer writing, “I was embarrassed watching Jessica Simpson’s performance.” Another added, “Jessica Simpson and Josh singing These Boots is the most cringe thing I’ve seen.” One particularly harsh post dubbed it an “absolute train wreck.”


Despite the polarizing response, Simpson found comfort in the support of her 13-year-old daughter, Maxwell. In an emotional Instagram Story, she shared how Maxwell’s pride and encouragement pushed her to take the leap back into the spotlight. “You are my guidin’ light forever,” Simpson wrote. “I am strong because of you, my sweet daughter.”
