Описание к видео Dear African People, | A Letter From A Fellow African Who Refuses To Be Silent | Femi Soewu

The West has long controlled the global narrative through media, academia, and industry. So when African cultures do something first, it’s often ignored and vilified. When the West adopts the same thing, it’s seen as a breakthrough.
Africans have often been made to feel ashamed of their own innovations, only to see the same ideas celebrated globally once the West finds a way to adopt, and sell them.

Africa Web TV's creative director, Femi Soewu says in this, the latest edition of The African Narratives Podcast that, Africans must stop allowing others to define who we are. Because when we don’t tell our stories, they tell them for us and they leave out our brilliance. But we are not what they say we are. We are what we say we are. We should teach African children African heroes and be proud of African achievements.
