I picked up my Red Barn the other day, when I got home I put it on the test track, I've heard many folks saying how quiet they are ... anyone who knows me , knows I like to take things apart. First thing I noticed was the radiator fan openings were all closed as the shell is a solid. The body of the shell has no opening in any of the grills to let the sound (air) out. Time to fix this... will need a small flat blade screw driver and some CA glue. The rad fan housings pop off quite easily as same with the winter hatch. Now to drill a pilot hole and ream open the fan hole openings. With a reamer I can control the amount of opening I need. Do it just enough so there is a bit of material for the fan housing to sit back on. In the end, it did improve the sound, but the speaker itself needs replacing. I was able to find a local source for these speakers.

Ok, now after reaming out the radiator holes, now it was time to add one of my favorite speakers. A Zimo dual speaker with chamber. After I disassemble the entire upper chassis, I weighted the upper half. Comes to 4.7oz, now I milled a large section out at the rear to make room for the speaker. After milling I weighed the chassis again, now drops to 3.9oz, add the speaker and some lead weight , were back up to 5.8oz. I secured the lead weights to each side of the cowl body seeing there's lots of room. Since the speaker covers the slot which holds the rear LED lamp board, I cut the light tube shorter and glued an LED to it. The wires from the LED glued on the light tube was now soldered onto the rear light wires from the decoder and the speaker wires were also soldered onto the old speaker lead. Now time to assemble and give a test.
